A Canadian Co-op in France…

The University of Ottawa first introduced its co-operative education (Co-op) program in 1980. Of the 40,000 students currently enrolled at the University of Ottawa, roughly 1,000 enter the co-op program every year.

Co-op is a tremendous opportunity for students. It gives us a chance to apply concepts learned in the classroom, expand our knowledge, and network with professionals in our field. For those students looking for a particularly enriching experience, international work placements are available.

Co-op students from the translation program complete three work placements during the undergraduate degree. My first work placement was in a private translation firm in Montréal, Quebec, and last fall, I completed my second work term with Alltradis, spending 14 weeks in France!

Alltradis agency takes an active interest in the future of the language industry by making these professional work experiences possible for students from both the University of Ottawa and local institutions. The importance of this opportunity cannot be overstated : it gives tomorrow’s translators a glimpse into the professional world that we will soon be entering. We are able to learn in a controlled environment, receiving constant feedback from our supervisor to help us improve, and eventually reach the skill level of a professional translator. To date, Alltradis has hired 13 interns, the last 2 of whom studied at the University of Ottawa.

Faut-il traduire la poésie ?

19 mars 2013
